Ideas for Children Party Games

Ice breaker party games
Regardless whether you are planning for an indoor party game or outdoor party game, you will need to plan for some ice breaker games to warm up your guests.
All ice breaker party games are to be play right at the start of any other party games. This is because the objective of all ice breaking games are to get guests to be more at ease with one another by getting them to interact in a fun and non-intimidating way so as to prepared them for more exciting party games to be play later.
You will need stickers for this ice breaker game.
If you want you can buy some cute stickers with cartoon and have spaces to write the kids’ names on it. Write each kid name on the sticker and get the children to sit in a circle and count one to four and clap, the host will blow a whistle or something that will make a funny sound and point to all the children in turn and ask them their name. Than give the sticker with the name and stick on their dress.
The objective of this ice breaking game is to get everybody know each other.
Indoor Games:
Picture drawing and colouring
Put big paper on the floor and crayon or colour pencil beside and let them draw picture on paper. If you have a theme party, you might want to print out some graphic and let them colour.
Play Dough
This is a great activity to play either end of the party to entertain the children while they are waiting for their parents to come and fetch them or at the beginning of the party when the children are waiting for other to arrive. You can either make your own dough or buy from toy shop from internet.
If you would like to make your own dough below is the recipe.
2 cups white flour
1 cup of salt
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 drop food colouring water as needed
Mix all the ingredients together. Add water, a drop at a time, until the dough is workable.
Buy mould of your themes like dinosaur mould if you are having a dinosaur kid party theme.
Pass the parcel
Wrap up a small box with different layers of paper and sticky tape. Between each layer put sweet or small price related to your theme (e.g. small Plastic dinosaur if you are having dinosaur kid party theme). Get all the children to sit in a circle, play the music and the parcel is passed around and when music stopped, the child who hold the parcel will remove a layer of the parcel make sure that you have enough price for everyone.
Musical Island
This game, is a variation from music chair, each child will be given an island make of cardboard to put on the floor and step on it. When the music starts all the children are supposed to move around those islands but not allowed to step on any cardboard island.
Once the music stop, all the children are to step on the nearest island but must not be the same island of the previous one. Each time before the music is started, an island removed.
Anyone who does not step on an island when the music stop will become the judge, the game will continue till the last person who left on an island is the winner.
Simon says
One of the kids will stand in front as leader (can get the birthday child) and tell the rest what to do prefacing each command with “Simon says…” Example “Simon says, scratch your head” any child who failed to follow the command of “Simon says” will be out of the game.
Balloon toss
This is a simple game for young children. Gather in a circle, the birthday child will start first. The birthday child will toss a balloon in the air at the middle of the circle and shout for a child name. The name of the child who was called will have to try to catch the balloon before it drops to the floor. If he succeed, he gets to toss the ballon and call out another child’s name.
Telephone
Arrange the child in straight line, begin the kid party game by whispers a message like “Spider man increase his power by drinking a potion make by spider juice” some thing related to your kid party theme. The first person whispers a message and so forth until finally the last person says it out loud. The fun of the game is that the final version be different from the original.
Puppets show
Puppets show is good for all kids that are below 5 years old. Especially for toddler, they very fascinated by puppets. You don’t really need to have a stage to do puppet show, you just hide behind a sofa or a table and hold up some cuddly toys and sing nursery rhymes with the children.
Pin the Tail on the Donkey
You can either purchase a Pin the Tail on the Donkey games or draw a donkey without a tail on a big piece of paper. Mark with a cross where the tail should be and pin it on the wall. Blindfold the children one by one and ask them to pin (or tape) the animal. The nearest person to the cross wins. Another variation of this game is to tack up a dozen or so small inflated balloons and have the blindfolded children try to pop them with a pin.
Sleeping Lions
All the guests lie on the floor. They must not move. You try to make them move by doing some trick example: “Look there is ice cream there”. The one who move will be out and be the next judge. This game is good to cool down the children or just before you announce for tea.
Out door Games:
Wheelbarrow Race
Pair off your guests into group of two.
One member of each team walk on his hand while the other hold his leg. At the signal to start, they will race to the finished line. The first pair who reached the finished line will be the winner.
Tug of war
This is one of the popular games for both kid and adult party. Divide your guests into two teams, placed each team at the one end of the rope and tight a ribbon at the middle of the rope. At the signal, the team begin to pull, the team that managed to pull the oppose team to it is the winner.
Water bomb
Divide the guests into two teams and give them each a pile of water and plastic bags to contain water. Once the game is start all the children has to quickly fill out the plastic bag and throw the water bag at the opposite team. Remember to ask the guests to bring extra clothing if you wanted to play this game.
Balloon battle
Each child tight a balloon at their leg below the knee when the whistle is brow, all the children will try to step and burst each others’ balloons. The last person with the balloon not being burst will be the winner.
Egg and Spoon race
Give each child a spoon with a hardboiled egg or chocolate or pin pong ball. The objective is to run from one end of the garden to the other with dropping the egg the first one who reach is the winner!
